Blanco, reposado and gold: what's the difference?
Blanco (also called silver) is unaged or very lightly rested, so it tastes most of agave: bright, peppery and citrusy. Casamigos Blanco, Don Julio Blanco, Patrón Silver, 1800 Blanco and Jose Cuervo Especial Silver are all blancos — perfect for margaritas, palomas and chilled shots.
Reposado is rested in oak for a few months, picking up vanilla and caramel. Casamigos Reposado and 1800 Reposado are softer and rounder, good for sipping on ice or in a richer margarita.
Jose Cuervo Especial Gold is a 'joven' style — a blend that is smooth and easy, mainly used for shots with salt and lime.
We do not currently stock an añejo. If you want a sipping tequila, Casamigos Reposado is the closest pick on our shelf.
Choosing tequila for a Toronto gathering
