Choosing a vodka: what actually differs
Vodka is meant to be clean, so the differences are about texture and finish. Grey Goose (French wheat) is soft and slightly creamy — ideal for martinis and vodka sodas where the spirit shows.
Cîroc is distilled from grapes and has a light fruity edge; it is popular for vodka cranberry and for celebration bottles.
Absolut and Finlandia are crisp, clean, mid-priced all-rounders. Smirnoff No. 21 is the classic value mixer, and Stolichnaya has a slightly peppery, traditional character that suits chilled shots.
